Promontorio di Punta Ala, Mediterranean promontory in Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy.

Promontorio di Punta Ala is a wooded landmass extending into the Mediterranean Sea, featuring rocky coves on the south side and sandy beaches along the northern bay. The entire area contains hiking paths, multiple bathing spots, and various water sport facilities along both coastlines.

The landmass housed defensive structures from the 16th century, including a Medici castle and the Hidalgo Tower to guard against sea raids. These structures shaped coastal defense for centuries afterward.

The name shifted in the 1930s when Italian aviator Italo Balbo acquired land and renamed it after the wing-like shape. Today residents and visitors recognize this name, which reflects the region's connection to aviation history.

The northern side offers broad sandy beaches with easy water access, while the southern part is rockier and offers better conditions for snorkeling. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear, especially when exploring the rocky areas.

Hidden swimming holes sit within rocky formations along the southern coastline, offering sheltered spots for swimmers and divers. These remote areas require some exploration but are often discovered by those seeking solitude.
