Cala Civette

Cala Civette is a sandy beach cove in Castiglione della Pescaia with golden sand curving along the shoreline and bordered by thick Mediterranean plant growth. The turquoise water remains shallow and clear for a considerable distance from shore, creating a natural swimming area.

The beach takes its name from Torre Civette, a watchtower built in the 16th century during the Piombino Principality era. This tower served as part of a coastal defense system against maritime raids.

The beach sits within the protected Bandite di Scarlino nature reserve, reflecting the traditional Tuscan approach to environmental conservation. Visitors experience the effects of these protection measures directly, as the natural landscape remains undisturbed.

Access requires either booking a parking spot at Val Martina in advance or walking about twenty minutes from Cala Violina parking through the nature reserve. Either route is manageable, but advance planning helps ensure a smooth visit.

The beach intentionally lacks modern facilities such as sunbeds, umbrellas, restrooms, or food stands, preserving its wild and untouched character. This absence of commercial development makes it a rare escape along the coast.
