Rifugio Lambertenghi-Romanin, Mountain hut in Forni Avoltri, Italy
Rifugio Lambertenghi-Romanin is a mountain hut situated at approximately 1970 meters (6460 feet) in the Carnic Alps near the Austrian border and Mount Coglians. The facility has sleeping space for about 94 guests in multiple dormitory rooms and operates during summer months and holiday periods.
The hut was established in 1935 when a World War I military structure was converted into a mountain shelter for climbers. This transformation of a former military building reflects how the landscape was repurposed for peaceful recreation after the conflict.
The hut serves traditional alpine dishes made with ingredients from the surrounding Carnic region. Visitors experience local mountain food culture firsthand when dining here.
The hut is most accessible from June through October when weather and trail conditions are optimal. Visitors should prepare with sturdy hiking boots and layered clothing, as the elevation and mountain weather can change quickly.
Just north of the pass lies Lake Wolaya, an alpine lake with distinctive rock formations and mountain views. From here, hikers can also reach the neighboring Austrian Wolayersee Hütte, making cross-border mountain walks possible.
