The basilica stands at the summit of Monte Berico, featuring a baroque architectural design with a grand staircase of 150 arches stretching 700 meters.
The original church was constructed in 1428 after reported appearances of the Virgin Mary to peasant Vincenza Pasini during a devastating regional plague.
The 150 arches of the portico stairway represent the mysteries of the rosary, connecting the city center of Vicenza to the religious complex.
Visitors can reach the basilica either through the monumental staircase or by car using the road that leads directly to Piazzale della Vittoria.
A natural spring emerged from the rock during the initial construction in 1428, fulfilling the prophecy made during the Marian apparitions.
