Palazzo Civena, City palace in historic center of Vicenza, Italy.
Palazzo Civena is a Renaissance city palace in Vicenza's historic center with a stone facade featuring a series of aligned bays supported by paired pilasters. These architectural elements clearly show high Renaissance design principles.
Construction began in 1540 under Andrea Palladio's direction and was one of his first major projects in Vicenza. The building suffered substantial damage during World War II but underwent careful restoration afterward.
The palace represents a blend of classical Roman elements with local northern Italian building traditions visible in its facade details. Visitors can observe this fusion in the proportions and decorative stonework across the front.
The building is near Viale Ereniano and easily walkable from the center. You get the best sense of it while strolling through the historic streets where it sits alongside other Renaissance palaces.
The building was reconstructed in stages after the war, with workers carefully recreating the original facade. The repair work is hard to spot even for trained eyes because it was done with such precision.
