Oratory of San Nicola da Tolentino, Renaissance oratory in Vicenza, Italy.
The oratory is a Renaissance structure with a facade featuring four Corinthian pilasters. Inside are paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries and statues that decorate the walls throughout the space.
Construction began in 1505 under architect Carlo Bottiron. The current facade was completed in 1678 after the building underwent several modifications over the centuries.
The name refers to Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, to whom this space is dedicated. Visitors can see how the walls are filled with paintings that show his life and the miracles attributed to him.
The interior space is relatively small and easy to take in, making it comfortable to view the works displayed on the walls. Good lighting helps you see the details of the paintings and statues clearly.
The ceiling painting by Giulio Carpioni from 1677 shows Saint Nicholas ascending to heaven, surrounded by scenes of his miracles. This single composition takes center stage and ties together all the other images in the space.
