Rifugio Falier, Mountain hut in Rocca Pietore, Italy.
Rifugio Falier is a mountain hut located at 2,074 meters (6,805 feet) in the Ombretta valley at the base of Marmolada's south face in the Dolomites. The facility provides 44 beds plus 4 winter spots and serves as an access point to numerous hiking trails and climbing routes.
The hut was founded in 1911 as Rifugio Ombretta and served as a military post during World War I before being destroyed in 1917. It was rebuilt in 1939 and has developed into the refuge visitors see today.
The refuge is run by a mountain family that practices traditional Alpine hospitality and serves regional dishes. Visitors experience how people live and share meals together at high elevation.
Reservations are required and visitors should bring their own sleeping bags, as the shelter has limited capacity year-round. The best time to visit is between June and September when operations are in full swing.
The refuge serves as a launch point for more than 180 climbing routes on Marmolada, ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced. This variety makes it a key hub for climbers of all skill levels.
