The Torre dei Della Bella is a tower in Florence with a square base built from white, red, and green marble blocks. The structure rises approximately 30 meters and stands on its original site.
The tower was built in the 1200s as part of Florence's defensive walls, designed by architect Arnolfo di Cambio. It marked an important entrance to the city during the medieval period.
The tower displays carved marble panels showing biblical scenes and prophet statues on its different levels. The colored marble decoration tells religious stories that visitors encounter while climbing up.
Reaching the viewing area requires climbing about 160 steps, and access is available during summer months from June through September. Wear comfortable shoes since the stairwell is narrow.
Unlike many other towers in Florence that were torn down over the centuries, this one kept its original height. Its protected location near the San Miniato hill helped preserve it.
