Villa Peragallo

Villa Peragallo is a private residence in Calenzano, Tuscany, decorated with Art Nouveau style elements including ornamental ironwork, ceramic tiles, and thoughtfully designed spaces that draw daylight throughout the interior. The architectural complex encompasses a private theater, a chapel with a frescoed dome, and numerous rooms connected by elegant transitions.

Built between 1905 and 1907 by architect Enrico Dante Fantappie for Giuseppe Targioni, the structure replaced an earlier residence called Villa Matilde. The newly constructed property then served its owners for several decades before experiencing significant changes during the turbulent events of the mid-20th century.

The villa contains a private theater and a Greek cross chapel with a frescoed dome, reflecting the elevated social standing of its early 20th century residents.

The villa is currently not open for regular visits as it remains in private ownership and requires substantial restoration work. Those interested can view the structure from outside or consult with local art historians and architecture enthusiasts who may offer more information about its design.

Between the two World Wars, the villa hosted costume parties and religious processions that revealed the playfulness and devotion of its residents. Later, German troops commandeered it as a military headquarters, adding another layer to its complex past.
