Villa Mirra

Villa Mirra is a 16th-century villa in Cavriana featuring grand halls and traditional architectural elements. The building incorporates materials from the former city walls and castle structures of the local area.

The villa was built in the 16th century and served as headquarters for Austrian Marshal Wurmser in 1796 during the napoleonic wars. It thus witnessed an important military chapter in the region's past.

The main hall served as a setting for an official breakfast between French President Charles De Gaulle and Italian President Giovanni Gronchi in 1959. This event reflects the villa's role as a place where significant political meetings took place.

The building now houses the Archaeological Museum of Alto Mantovano and functions as a venue for various events and exhibitions. Visitors should check ahead to see what is currently on display or scheduled.

The 1770 reconstruction used stones taken directly from the demolished Gonzaga castle nearby. This material connects the villa to an earlier noble residence that once stood in the area.
