Sant'Erasmo, Church and art museum in Castel Goffredo, Italy
Sant'Erasmo is a Renaissance church in Castel Goffredo featuring three naves arranged in a Latin cross layout. Seven chapels line the interior and hold artworks spanning from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
The original structure was built in 1288 but was demolished in 1516. Reconstruction took place between 1588 and 1590 under architect Bernardino Facciotto, establishing the form that exists today.
The Treasure of Sant'Erasmo houses a collection of relics and reliquaries that opened to visitors in October 2021. These sacred objects reflect the spiritual importance this place has held for the faithful throughout its long history.
Regular mass services take place throughout the week, with confessions and Eucharistic adoration available on Thursdays from 9:30 AM to noon. Check ahead to plan your visit around these times.
A pipe organ built by Costanzo Antegnati in 1595 sits to the left of the main altar and has undergone multiple restorations. This instrument represents a rare example of organ craftsmanship from that era.
