Palazzo Gonzaga-Acerbi

Palazzo Gonzaga-Acerbi, Neoclassical palace in Castel Goffredo, Italy.

Palazzo Gonzaga-Acerbi is a neoclassical building in Castel Goffredo featuring a symmetrical facade with clean lines and classical ornamental details. The structure occupies an entire side of the main square, positioned between the Civic Tower and Torrazzo.

In the late 1700s, Colonel Giuseppe Acerbi acquired the building and transformed its architecture into the neoclassical style visible today. This renovation reflected the period's preference for classical forms and order.

The entrance loggia features marble columns and frescoed vaults decorated with grotesque motifs overlooking an old garden. These spaces reveal how the family displayed their wealth and connection to classical tradition.

The palace sits on the main square of Castel Goffredo and is easily reached on foot. Its central location makes it a natural stop when exploring the town center.

Two rose plants climbing the exedra come from Alexandria, Egypt, brought back by Consul Giuseppe Acerbi in the early 1800s. These botanical survivors are reminders of his travels across the Mediterranean.
