St Mark's Clock, Renaissance astronomical clock at Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy

The clock occupies a dedicated tower featuring bronze figures known as Moors, measuring 2.5 meters high, who strike a large bell each hour.

The Venetian Republic commissioned the clock to Gian Paolo and Gian Carlo Rainieri, who completed its construction between 1496 and 1499.

The clock face displays zodiac signs, moon phases, and planetary positions through a system of concentric rings that reflect medieval astronomical understanding.

Visitors can access guided tours through the tower's spiral staircases to reach the rooftop level where the mechanical Moors strike the bell.

The mechanism includes a digital display with illuminated numerals added in 1857, making it one of the earliest examples of numerical time display.
