Church of Saint Roch

The Church of Saint Roch is a Renaissance church building in the San Polo district with a brick exterior decorated with religious sculptures. Its interior holds paintings from different artistic periods arranged within the main hall.

Construction began in 1489 under architect Pietro Bon and continued through gradual expansions over decades. The building reached its final form in the early 1700s.

The name comes from a medieval pilgrim who helped those afflicted with plague, and this figure shaped the artwork and decorations inside. Visitors encounter his story throughout the interior, showing how locals have long sought his protection.

The church is open daily to visitors and allows a clear view of its interior spaces. Natural light from above makes it easy to see the artwork on the walls.

Sacred remains from another city were brought here and remain preserved inside. This makes it a special destination for those seeking spiritual connection.
