Pale di San Lucano

Pale di San Lucano is a mountain range in Belluno Province featuring steep rock walls that plunge into the San Lucano Valley below. The massif consists of several prominent peaks with distinctive vertical formations rising from the rocky terrain.

Exploration of this mountain range intensified during the 1930s when climbers completed significant first ascents in the area. This period marked the beginning of modern mountaineering activity on these peaks.

The northern slopes hold old shepherd huts called casere, where people raised livestock for generations and hunted chamois across the high pastures.

Access to this range is gained through Bivacco Bedin shelter located on Prima Pala, which serves as a base for mountaineering expeditions. Visitors need climbing experience and proper mountain gear to navigate the terrain safely.

The Diedro Casarotto-Radin route on Spiz di Lagunaz stands out as a challenging climbing path that represents the technical difficulty found throughout this section. Experienced climbers seek it out for its demanding pitches and steep rock faces.
