Castle of Antesica

The Castle of Antesica is a medieval fortress near Langhirano built on elevated terrain overlooking the Parma stream valley. The structure features fortified walls, multiple towers, and a central courtyard surrounded by various halls and underground passages.

Construction of the fortress took place between 1448 and 1460, replacing an earlier defensive structure that had belonged to the Scorza family. The project was commissioned by a powerful regional ruler of that era.

The Camera d'Oro contains international Gothic frescoes depicting a personal relationship between two historical figures. This room reflects the artistic tastes that were cultivated within the fortress.

The site is most accessible during summer months when the central courtyard opens for events and gatherings. Guided tours provide entry to different rooms and underground passages throughout the structure.

The structure incorporates ancient geometric principles into its design, reflecting the commissioner's fascination with mathematical harmonies. This deliberate blending of mathematics into the architecture sets it apart from contemporary fortresses.
