The Opera di Firenze encompasses a modern theater complex offering numerous performances throughout the year, featuring both classical and contemporary operas.
The theater originated from the Politeama Fiorentino Vittorio Emanuele amphitheater in 1862, later transforming into the Teatro Comunale and receiving its current name.
The annual Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival presents four major opera productions between April and June, drawing international performers and conductors.
The theater maintains multiple seating sections, including an orchestra level, one tier of boxes, and two semicircular galleries that accommodate 2,000 spectators.
Zubin Mehta, who began conducting at the opera house in 1985, now serves as the honorary conductor for life at this institution.
