Panarotta, Mountain summit in Valsugana region, Italy
Panarotta is a mountain summit reaching 2,002 meters in the Valsugana region with sweeping views across the valley and Lakes Levico and Caldonazzo. The peak is accessible by several hiking routes, including the marked trail 308 starting from Vetriolo Terme that passes through forests and alpine terrain.
The mountain was an important military site during World War I with positions still visible today scattered across the slopes. Artillery placements, shelters, and observation posts remain as evidence of the fighting that took place in this alpine terrain.
The summit serves as a gathering point for hikers and regional mountain clubs who meet at the cross on top. These regular meetings show how the place remains central to local mountain traditions.
The climb is moderate and takes several hours, passing through different landscapes from forested slopes to open grassland. Bring a headlamp and dress in layers suited to changing elevation, especially if you plan to stay on top longer.
The peak sits on the European long-distance trail E5 that brings hikers from different countries crossing the Alps. The nearby Malga Masi mountain hut serves as a rest point for these international trekkers passing through.
