Santuario della Madonna dei Bisognosi

The Santuario della Madonna dei Bisognosi sits on Mount Serra Secca at about 1043 meters in elevation between Pereto and Rocca di Botte. The shrine occupies a hilltop with views across the surrounding landscape.

The sanctuary received national monument status in 1902, establishing its place in Italian religious architecture. This recognition confirmed its importance to the region over many centuries.

The interior features late 15th-century frescoes painted by local artists that still decorate the walls. These works shape how the sanctuary looks and feels when you step inside.

Access is by a mountain path from Pereto that is easiest to walk during warmer months. Visitors should wear proper footwear and bring water, as the hilltop location and quiet setting allow for peaceful exploration.

A wooden statue of Madonna, originally from Seville, was brought here to protect it and arrived on a mule that stopped at this spot and died. This story is rooted in local tradition and explains the sanctuary's name.
