Sanctuary of the Madonna del Pilastrello, Lendinara, Minor basilica and pilgrimage shrine in Lendinara, Italy.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Pilastrello is a Renaissance-style church in Lendinara, in the province of Rovigo, with a bell tower, marble floors, and several side chapels. The interior holds altars, sculptures, and religious artworks gathered over centuries.
Construction began in 1577 after the discovery of a spring with unusual reddish water that drew people seeking healing. This find laid the foundation for one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the region.
The interior displays paintings influenced by Venetian masters, alongside frescoes depicting miracles attributed to the Virgin of Pilastrello. These works show how deeply rooted the devotion of the faithful has remained over the centuries.
The sanctuary is a short walk from Lendinara train station and is open throughout the year. A visit works well on both weekdays and weekends, when services and quiet exploration are both possible.
The Cappella del Bagno holds a large marble basin surrounded by angel sculptures, through which water from the original spring still flows today. This room with running water is one of the few places where you can physically sense the origin of the sanctuary.
