Villa Badoer, Renaissance villa in Fratta Polesine, Italy.
Villa Badoer is a manor house in Fratta Polesine designed by a renowned Venetian architect. The building features two curved side wings that frame the central structure, with a grand staircase leading up to a columned entrance hall.
Construction of this manor house took place between 1557 and 1563, replacing a medieval fortress that had once protected a bridge crossing a waterway. The new building transformed this area into a place of wealth and power.
The rooms inside display frescoes showing mythological scenes that show what the Venetian nobility of the 1500s liked and valued. Walking through, you can sense how the owners wanted to demonstrate their learning and wealth through the artwork around them.
This place opens only on certain days of the week, so check ahead before planning your visit. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk through several rooms and climb stairs to see all the different areas.
The semicircular colonnades on both sides of the house are an architectural rarity among this architect's works. These curved structures give the building a uniquely flowing and harmonious quality that sets it apart from his other designs.
