Torre Vanga

Torre Vanga is a medieval tower in Trento with seven stories built on a rectangular base of approximately 11 by 10.5 meters. The structure rises 34 meters high near the railway station, where it stands as a notable part of the urban landscape.

The tower was built in 1210 by Prince-bishop Federico Vanga as a defensive structure along the medieval city walls. Its strategic position on the Adige River shaped its role in protecting the city for centuries.

The tower transformed from a military fortification into a prison before becoming an exhibition space for the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

The tower is located very close to the railway station and is easy to reach. Visitors will find the best views from outside, where the structure and different construction phases are clearly visible.

The structure displays a striking mix of materials: the lower sections use stone blocks while the upper stories are built with bricks. These differences mark different construction phases across generations.
