Castello di Sorbello, Medieval castle in Cortona, Italy

The rectangular stone fortress features a crenelated tower on a trapezoidal base with two grand gateways connected by an extensive courtyard.

The castle served as an imperial fief granted by Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg in 1416, maintaining its independence until the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

Inside the castle, 365 rooms display Baroque modifications from the 17th century, including the Marquis' Room, Throne Room, and Hall of Busts.

Visitors can schedule guided tours in Italian or English from May to October through the Fondazione Ranieri di Sorbello, with tickets priced at €10 for adults.

The castle retains its original 17th-century church furnishings within the courtyard, and remains inhabited by descendants of the noble family who built it.
