Church of Saint Mary of Jesus

The Church of Saint Mary of Jesus is a fifteenth-century religious building in Alcamo featuring a marble entrance portal completed in 1507. Inside, multiple chapels display artworks and sculptural pieces gathered over centuries.

Construction started in 1450 under the direction of Blessed Arcangelo from Calatafimi, who also established an adjacent Franciscan convent. The marble portal was added in the early sixteenth century, marking a phase of artistic expansion.

The interior features side chapels filled with artworks spanning multiple centuries of religious devotion. A sixteenth-century statue of the Virgin and Child stands at the main altar, reflecting the artistic tastes of its era.

The church is open to visitors on weekdays and weekends, with regular services held throughout the day. It is best to check ahead as schedules may shift during religious holidays or special celebrations.

The building preserves the remains of founder Arcangelo in an ornate golden wooden vessel displayed for visitors to see. A prayer grotto located nearby remains accessible to those wishing to experience the space associated with the founder's spiritual life.
