San Giovanni Battista

San Giovanni Battista is a Baroque minor basilica in central Vittoria, featuring a multi-tiered facade divided by horizontal bands and topped with two small domes. The front elevation displays classical architectural details including Ionic and Corinthian capitals throughout its design.

This church was constructed between 1695 and 1706 in response to the devastating 1693 earthquake that destroyed the previous structure. Its construction reflects the community's effort to rebuild after a major disaster.

This basilica serves as the spiritual center of Vittoria and has remained the place where the community gathers for worship and celebrations. You can sense the connection between local residents and their faith through the way the space is used and maintained today.
