Biblioteca Lazzerini, Public library in Prato, Italy.
The Biblioteca Lazzerini is a public library in Prato housed in a former textile factory with spacious reading rooms and multiple floors containing books, journals, and digital resources. The building was renovated to provide contemporary facilities for study and research.
The library was founded in 1978 in a different location before moving to the renovated Ex Cimatoria Campolmi, a 19th-century industrial building. This relocation allowed the collection to be housed in a newly designed facility within a historic factory.
The name comes from Monsignor Alessandro Lazzerini, whose personal collection formed the foundation of what exists today. The spaces blend contemporary library design with the feeling of a preserved industrial building.
The location is in the Santa Chiara district and shares its building with the Prato Textile Museum, which visitors can also explore. Plan to spend time visiting both facilities since they occupy the same address.
Architect Marco Mattei designed the current floor plan, integrating modern library functions into the architecture of a 19th-century factory building. This blend shows how historic spaces can be adapted for contemporary use while honoring their industrial past.
