Il Mauriziano, Renaissance villa in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Il Mauriziano is a Renaissance villa in Reggio Emilia featuring a quadrangular layout with a symmetrical central hall and three decorated chambers with sail vaults. Access to the complex comes through a terracotta triumphal arch followed by a long tree-lined avenue leading to the main structure.

The villa was built around 1450 and retained its sixteenth-century structure despite renovations during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. These later alterations shaped its present appearance while preserving the core Renaissance design.

The Poets' Chamber displays paintings of writers and poets on an ideal Parnassus, reflecting the scholarly interests of the villa's owners. The adjoining spaces show how Renaissance patrons celebrated intellectual pursuits through decoration and art.

Visiting requires walking through the terracotta arch and the tree-lined avenue before reaching the main entrance, which gives visitors a leisurely approach to the building. The route is flat and provides a good sense of the property's scale and layout.

The Horatii Chamber features interior walls decorated with landscapes and scenes of Roman ruins depicting historical episodes through detailed frescoes. These representations blend archaeological references with artistic skill in a way that brings ancient history into the lived space.
