Leopardi's House

Leopardi's House is a residence museum in Recanati that spans multiple floors with period rooms and a large library containing thousands of books. The spaces preserve the arrangement and atmosphere of when the family occupied these rooms.

The Leopardi family occupied this location since medieval times, before the buildings were joined and reorganized in the 1700s by Carlo Orazio Leopardi. This restructuring created the layout that exists today.

The rooms display personal belongings and writings of poet Giacomo Leopardi, offering a window into his daily life and creative process. Walking through these spaces, visitors encounter the objects he knew and the environment that shaped his work.

The house is best explored on foot at your own pace, allowing time to look carefully at each room and move between floors comfortably. It helps to plan which sections interest you most, as the building expands more than it appears from the street.

The upper floors remain inhabited by descendants of the Leopardi family, keeping the residence alive with their presence. This continuing family connection gives the place an authenticity that many historical homes have lost.
