Isolotto Formica Lighthouse

Isolotto Formica Lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete tower on an island off Sicily with a white exterior and grey lantern dome at its top. The structure rises about 20 meters and sits surrounded by water, making its role as a navigation aid for ships clear.

The tower was built in 1858 during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. It became an important navigation aid for ships traveling through the Mediterranean.

The island was once a center for tuna fishing operated by the Florio family, an activity that continued until 1979. This maritime heritage remains visible in the landscape today.

The lighthouse is fully automated and powered by solar energy, requiring regular maintenance checks. Keep in mind that the island is only accessible by boat and weather can affect access to the site.

The island is now managed by Mondo X, an organization supporting individuals recovering from drug addiction. This gives the historic location a second purpose as a place of rehabilitation and hope.
