Museo nazionale di Castello Pandone

The Museo nazionale di Castello Pandone is a national museum housed within a castle in Venafro, displaying religious artworks and collections from the Molise region across three different levels. The spaces feature historic architectural elements including towers and fortified walls.

The oldest structure is a Longobard tower from the 10th century built upon Roman foundations, showing the site's military origins. The building was later expanded and modified by local noble families to create its present form.

The frescoes in the main rooms feature life-sized horses commissioned by Count Enrico Pandone, creating a distinctive visual impression that reflects aristocratic tastes of the Renaissance period. These artworks shape how visitors experience the interior spaces today.

The entrance is located at the foot of the castle, which is easy to spot from outside, and the exhibitions are spread across multiple floors. Accessible facilities accommodate visitors with different mobility needs.

The collection includes paintings sourced from major museums such as the National Gallery of Capodimonte in Naples and Palazzo Barberini in Rome. This reflects how regional institutions preserve significant artistic works for public access.
