Buccinasco Castle

Buccinasco Castle is a medieval fortified complex featuring four corner towers, red brick walls, and an internal courtyard surrounded by defensive barriers. The structure displays a layered defensive system with solid walls designed to protect occupants from external threats.

Luchino Visconti commissioned the castle in the 14th century to establish military control over the territory between Milan and Pavia. The property changed hands several times over the following centuries before eventually becoming a private residence of significant historical importance.

The castle was central to the lives of the Visconti family and shaped how the surrounding community developed during medieval times. Walking around the structure, you can sense the residential spaces where noble families once conducted their daily affairs and entertained guests.

The castle is privately owned and subject to preservation restrictions, so public access to the interior is not available to visitors. You can view and photograph the outer structure and grounds from the perimeter without entering the building itself.

An underground passage once connected the castle to a nearby church and farmstead until the 1970s, when it was sealed off. This hidden connection reveals how medieval fortifications often included multiple escape routes and alternative access points for emergencies.
