Palazzo della Provincia

Palazzo della Provincia is a government building on Lungomare Nazario Sauro in Bari with an irregular shape and exterior walls featuring alternating patterns of Trani stone and red brick. The structure houses administrative offices for the Metropolitan City of Bari, a council chamber, and an art gallery.

The palace was commissioned in 1930 by the Provincial Administration of Bari and completed in 1935 under the design of engineer Luigi Baffa. The building emerged during a period when Bari was developing as a modern Italian port city.

The Pinacoteca Metropolitana within the palace displays paintings from Apulian, Venetian, Tuscan, and Neapolitan artists spanning medieval to modern periods. Visitors can explore the different regional artistic traditions of southern Italy all in one collection.

The building sits directly on the waterfront promenade and is easily walkable from the city center. Keep in mind that parts of the building house government offices, so the art gallery operates on set visiting hours.

A 62-meter clock tower with five distinct levels rises above the structure, shaping the Bari skyline. The tower design was inspired by the nearby Cathedral of San Sabino, reflecting local architectural continuity.
