Villa Freischütz, Cultural heritage villa in Obermais, Merano, Italy.
Villa Freischütz is a 1909 residence with modernist architecture located in Merano. The building features high ceilings, terrazzo floors, and decorative Asian wallpapers displayed throughout its exhibition rooms.
Franz Fromm, a Prussian wine merchant, purchased the house in 1922 and shaped it with his collection. His granddaughter later opened it to the public as a museum.
The villa displays how wealthy families lived in the early 20th century through its furniture, artworks, and personal objects on show. The rooms give visitors a sense of how people of that era furnished their homes and spent their daily lives.
The house opens to visitors from mid-April to early November and is located at Via Priami 7. You can reach it by bus line 1 or find parking at Via Belvedere.
The house was nominated in 2024 for the European Museum of the Year Award among Italian cultural institutions. This recognition highlights its importance within the broader European museum landscape.
