Rottenstein Castle, Medieval castle in Obermais, Italy
The L-shaped castle features two distinct corner towers, with the northwest tower rising four floors and the south tower extending three stories high.
The estate, first documented in 1696, belonged to the von Priami family before changing ownership multiple times throughout the nineteenth century.
The architectural elements include double arches and paired rectangular windows on the ground floor, reflecting the building traditions of South Tyrol.
The castle remains privately owned by descendants of the Liechtenstein family and maintains its status as a protected cultural monument since 1951.
King Ludwig of Bavaria purchased the property in 1841 through architect Leo von Klenze, intending to build a royal pleasure palace that never materialized.
