Staglieno Cemetery, Commonwealth Plot, Military cemetery section in Staglieno, Italy.

The Commonwealth Plot at Staglieno Cemetery holds graves and memorials for soldiers from both world wars within this larger monumental cemetery. All headstones display engraved names, ranks, military units, and dates of death, organized in rows throughout the dedicated section.

This section was created to honor soldiers from multiple nations who died during the world wars. The landscape designer Louis de Soissons laid out the space, establishing it as a place where different countries could collectively remember their fallen.

The white headstones stand in neat rows, creating a solemn, ordered appearance that shapes how visitors move through the space. People from different nations come to pay respects and leave flowers, making it a place where international remembrance happens naturally.

The section is accessible daily through the main cemetery entrance and can be reached on foot from there. Best visibility of the headstones and inscriptions comes in morning hours when natural light falls at a low angle.

Beyond the standard military information, many headstones include personal inscriptions or verses chosen by families to remember their loved ones. These carved messages reveal how grief was expressed across different cultures and generations.
