Until the 1950s, this street housed a professional washing service where men, organized in guilds since 1700, cleaned garments in water from Naviglio Grande.
Saint Anthony of Padua received recognition as the patron saint of Milan washermen, with a dedicated altar in the Santa Maria delle Grazie al Naviglio church.
The former detergent shop transformed into El Brellin restaurant maintains the original structure and stands at the entrance of the alley.
At number 6, visitors can examine an early 1900s centrifuge mechanism that predates the invention of modern washing machines.
