Santa Maria Nascente church

Santa Maria Nascente stands in Livigno's center with a half-round facade divided into two levels by ornamental cornices and pilasters. The structure combines classical design elements with regional building style and holds several hundred worshippers.

The original church appeared in the 14th century and was consecrated in 1469. The current building comes from a major overhaul between 1884 and 1887 that refreshed the interiors while keeping foundations of the older structure.

Inside, paintings from the early 1700s by Giorgio Staina show scenes from Mary's life, while statues of the four Evangelists stand on the pulpit. These artworks shape how the church looks and speak to local religious devotion.

The church is easy to reach from the main street and welcomes visitors during daylight hours. Bring warm clothing since mountain churches can feel cool, especially in early morning and evening.

The bell tower comes from the 1600s but only received its clock and bells during the 1700s, with the bells being replaced in 1860. These layers show how the church grew and improved across generations.
