Santa Maria della Visitazione, Baroque church in Piazza Saffi, Forlì, Italy
Santa Maria della Visitazione is a Baroque church featuring an elliptical floor plan supported by pillars and columns that rise toward the interior. A prominent dome crowns the space with decorative frescoes and painted elements, while the main altar displays a painting of the Visitation with Saints Francis Xavier and John Nepomuk.
Construction began in 1723, though the facade remained unfinished for many decades. The architect Cesare Bazzani finally completed the facade in 1933 by following the original design.
The interior walls display decorations by Serafino Barozzi that contribute to the overall artistic richness of the space. These ornamental elements reflect the aesthetic values of the Baroque period and shape how visitors experience the environment.
The church sits at the intersection of Piazza Saffi and Corso Repubblica, making it easy to locate from the main squares. The first chapel on the right side is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and serves as a helpful landmark once inside.
An organ built by the master craftsman Gaetano Callido in the 18th century remains intact within the church. This instrument represents a rare example of the skilled organ-building craft from that era.
