Santuario della Madonna della Scala, Catholic shrine in Castellammare del Golfo, Italy.
The sanctuary stands on a hillside overlooking the sea near the port, featuring a 147-step staircase leading to its entrance point.
The church construction began in the 17th century after a young shepherdess discovered a box containing religious artifacts during a storm in 1641.
The annual celebration on September 8 includes a procession through the streets of Castellammare del Golfo, followed by traditional fireworks displays.
Located at Via Porta Fraginesi 52, the sanctuary sits 200 meters above sea level and requires visitors to climb stairs for access.
The current Madonna della Scala icon, commissioned in 2004, replaced the original artwork that was stolen in the twentieth century.
