Castello dei Conti d'Aquino, Medieval castle in Roccasecca, Italy.

The stone fortress stands on a mountain peak with defensive walls, a central courtyard, and a watchtower known as Torre del Cannone.

Built in 994 by Abbot Mansone of Montecassino, the castle served as a defensive structure against Lombard invasions and became the birthplace of Saint Thomas Aquinas in 1224.

The castle grounds contain a large rainwater collection cistern and multiple architectural elements that represent medieval military engineering techniques.

Visitors can access the castle through the western entrance, which leads to the main courtyard and provides views of the surrounding Lazio region.

The Torre del Cannone, positioned outside the main walls, reportedly served as a prison cell for Saint Thomas Aquinas during his captivity.
