Castello Dondena Bagnoli

Castello Dondena Bagnoli is a neo-medieval castle in Scandiano composed of two main buildings with characteristic defensive elements. The square tower with crenellations and a circular service tower define its structure, while the complex occupies substantial grounds between these elements.

The Bagnoli family built this castle during the second half of the nineteenth century as a neo-medieval interpretation of earlier architectural forms. Ownership later passed to the Dondena family and subsequently changed hands again.

The interior walls feature frescoes by recognized Italian artists from the nineteenth century, reflecting typical decorative styles of that era. Visitors can appreciate these artistic details from the exterior and recognize the craftsmanship traditions of that period.

The castle sits along Provincial Road 7 in the Iano district of Scandiano and operates as a private residence closed to visitors. The exterior can be viewed from the road, allowing visitors to appreciate the architectural features and towers from a distance.

The castle consists of two separate buildings positioned across substantial distances, an unusual layout for a single property. This spatial arrangement suggests deliberate planning to separate residential and service areas.
