Fabbrica Sali di Bario, Chemical factory in Calolziocorte, Italy.
The Fabbrica Sali di Bario is a chemical factory in Calolziocorte located near the railway station, constructed with red brick buildings and a tall industrial chimney. The northern section has been converted into office and commercial spaces, with a portion now operating as a pub.
The factory was founded in 1902 and initially produced sulfuric acid and barium hydrate under the management of the Cugnasca Baggioli company until 1908. Production of barium salts and related compounds continued until the facility closed in 1998.
The factory embodies the industrial past of the Lecco region and reflects how manufacturing shaped daily life in this area. Visitors can observe the massive brick walls and chimneys that still tell the story of this working era.
The site is within walking distance of the railway station, making it easy to reach and offering good views of the entire complex. The renovated northern section with its modern uses provides opportunities to visit or rest in the newly established facilities.
Although production ended in 1998, parts of the old factory building were creatively repurposed, including as a pub starting in 2013, showing how industrial spaces can come alive with new uses today. This transformation preserves the memory of the long production history while bringing new activity to the site.
