Garage Traversi, Historic building in Milan, Italy
Garage Traversi is a historic building in Milan, Italy, located at Via Bagutta 2, near Piazza San Babila. It has a rounded corner and a pale green facade with horizontal bands of blue-tinted windows, and the lower levels are flat while the upper storeys curve outward.
Built in 1938 and completed in 1939, it was the first multi-storey car park in Milan, designed by architects Giuseppe De Min and Alessandro Rimini. It closed as a parking facility in 2003 and reopened in 2023 as a Louis Vuitton store after renovation.
The building's name comes from the Traversi family, who commissioned it, and it is known for its role in Milan's modern architecture. Today, it houses a Louis Vuitton store, and the ground floor features a glass storefront with a yellow and black pattern, while the upper floors display the brand's name.
The building sits in a central area of Milan, a short walk from the Duomo and other main sights. Visitors can easily reach it on foot or by public transport, and the exterior is visible from the street at any time.
The building originally had seven upper floors, each 2.80 meters high, and could hold 350 cars, using three innovative lifts instead of ramps. It was one of the first buildings in Milan made of reinforced concrete.
