Chiostro dei Canonici, Renaissance cloister in Lodi, Italy.
The Chiostro dei Canonici is a Renaissance cloister within the Lodi Cathedral complex, featuring double arcaded corridors with red marble columns arranged around a rectangular courtyard. The surrounding galleries display multiple stories with architectural elements from different periods layered over centuries.
The cloister originated in the medieval period and underwent major transformation during the 1600s when two-story Romanesque arcades supported by solid stone pillars were added. This renovation integrated earlier structures with new construction techniques of that era.
The walls of the first floor display medieval frescoes showing the Cycle of the Months with scenes of rural life and seasonal work. These paintings tell stories of how people lived and worked throughout the year.
Access is available Monday to Friday during set hours, with afternoon openings on weekends. Be aware that visiting hours may vary by season, so checking ahead is worth doing before your visit.
Beneath the arcades lie early Christian mosaic floors that reveal how the structure developed across centuries. These layered remains show evidence of multiple construction phases built one atop another.
