Mobara, City municipality in Chiba Prefecture, Japan
Mobara is a city municipality in Chiba Prefecture on Honshu Island, spreading across the Kujukuri Plain and the Boso Hill Range. Settlements sit among rice paddies, wooded hills, and smaller rivers that run through the lowlands.
Archaeological finds show settlements from the Jomon and Yayoi periods, along with burial sites from the Kofun era. The modern municipality took shape after the Meiji Restoration through several territorial reforms in the 20th century.
The Tanabata Festival in late July fills the streets with parades and market stalls, differing from other regions that celebrate on July 7.
JR Mobara Station connects the city to the larger Chiba and Tokyo metropolitan areas. Local buses serve the rural sections and smaller neighborhoods in the outer districts.
Mobara Park holds nearly 3,000 cherry trees that bloom in spring, along with a vermilion-painted Benten Bridge over a pond. Turtles and fish often gather in the shallow water near the bridge banks.
