Sunagawa, Railroad city in Sorachi Subprefecture, Japan

The city of Sunagawa encompasses 78.69 square kilometers of land in central Hokkaido, with numerous parks and residential neighborhoods between railway connections.

Initially established as Nae Village in 1890, Sunagawa underwent administrative transformations before achieving city status on July 1, 1958, marking regional development milestones.

The name Sunagawa originates from the Ainu language term Ota-ushi-nai, which represents the geographical feature of a river flowing near sandy shores.

Sunagawa connects to major transportation networks through the Hakodate Main Line and Hokkaido Expressway, facilitating movement throughout the prefecture.

In 1984, Sunagawa received recognition as the first Amenity Town in Hokkaido due to its integrated green spaces and urban planning approach.
