Moriguchi

Moriguchi is a city in northern Osaka Prefecture that runs along the southern bank of the Yodo River. The densely settled urban landscape contains residential neighborhoods, factories, and commercial districts spread across a compact area.

This area served as a post station on the road between Osaka and Kyoto during the Edo period. The construction of a railway line in 1910 transformed the settlement into an industrial center, drawing factories and workers.

The city takes its name from the lotus fields that once lined these riverbanks, cultivated here for centuries. This connection to farming traditions still appears in old street names and local customs that residents remember and share.

Moriguchi station on the Tanimachi Line connects the city directly to central Osaka and the surrounding suburban areas. The city sits close to the river, so visitors can use the riverside paths to orient themselves and walk through different neighborhoods.

Panasonic established its headquarters in this city and began building its first manufacturing facilities here. The presence of the company shaped the local cityscape for many decades and brought thousands of employees to the region.
