Kinokawa, Regional hub in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan

The Kinokawa River flows through this 228 square kilometer city, with the Izumi Mountains to the north and Kii Mountains to the south.

The city emerged on November 11, 2005, through the consolidation of five distinct towns: Kokawa, Kishigawa, Naga, Momoyama, and Uchita.

The Former Nate-juku Honjin and Kii Kokubun-ji ruins maintain their status as National Historic Sites, preserving the region's architectural heritage.

The city maintains 16 elementary schools, seven middle schools, and two high schools, serving its population of over 60,000 residents.

The region produced Hanaoka Seishū, an Edo period surgeon who performed the first documented surgery under general anesthesia in 1804.
