Kainan

Kainan is a city in southeastern Wakayama Prefecture situated along Wakanoura Bay, with gentle terrain in the north giving way to more rugged landscape further inland. The urban area combines residential neighborhoods with industrial zones centered around the harbor and port infrastructure.

The city was established in 1934 when three smaller towns merged to form a single municipality. This consolidation set the stage for subsequent industrial development that would shape the area's character in the decades to follow.
