Kainan, Industrial port city in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.
The city stretches along Wakanoura Bay, featuring gentle hills in the north and mountains reaching 558 meters in the southern region.
The formation of Kainan occurred in 1934 through the consolidation of three distinct towns: Kuroe, Hiigata, and Uchiumi.
The region maintains its reputation for producing Kishu lacquerware, a traditional craft dating back to the Edo period from 1603 to 1867.
The city contains twelve elementary schools, seven middle schools, and two high schools, serving an estimated population of 48,811 residents.
A coastal industrial park established in the 1960s transformed the area with petrochemical facilities and a thermal power plant.
