Misawa High School, high school in Misawa, Aomori
Misawa High School is a school on Misawa Air Base in northeastern Japan, near the coast of Honshu. The campus includes modern buildings with classrooms, a library, art and music rooms, while outside there are sports fields, basketball courts, and a baseball diamond for student activities.
The school originated in 1948 from a former Japanese Air Defense Headquarters that was converted into a school after World War II. In 1960 it split into two parts, and later developed into a modern facility with new buildings added during the 1980s and 1990s.
The school celebrates Japanese traditions through dance, martial arts, and cultural events that students experience regularly. Students also take part in community projects like planting trees and supporting affected areas after disasters, showing how the school maintains local connections.
The campus is quiet and well organized with clear paths between buildings and sports areas. Keep in mind this is an active school facility, so visits are best arranged outside class hours or through prior permission.
The school's elementary division was named after Lieutenant Colonel John A. Sollars, a pilot who ejected from his plane in 1960 to prevent it from crashing into a town. This act of sacrifice is woven into the school's identity and reflects its values of integrity.
